Fractional Exponents for Complex Numbers

Warning: the usual rules for fractional exponents that hold for positive real numbers do not usually hold for complex numbers. For example,

$$(-1{)}^{1/2}(-1{)}^{1/2}\ne (-1{)}^1=1.$$
